Designer Kawamura Ganjavian created this Ostrich mini-environment
0 comments Posted by alice at 10:24 PMIt is neither a pillow nor a cushion, nor a bed, nor a garment, but a bit of each at the same time. Its soothing cave-like interior shelters and isolates our head and hands (mind, senses and body) for a few minutes, without needing to leave our desk.Designer Kawamura Ganjavian created this Ostrich mini-environment

with the first prototypes debuted last year, the 'wow-keys' USB keyboard by korean manufacturers omnio is now publicly available,
providing a keyboard dock that is bidirectionally integrated with iPhones and iPod touch for data transfer.
measuring 16 x 4.7 x 1 -inches and weighing 1.4 pounds, the full-size QWERTY keyboard is compatible with both windows and mac
operating systems, permitting the docking of iPhones and iPods. in addition to charging and syncing when connected to the keyboard,
the handheld devices can be used for touchscreen controlling of the PC, including as a numberpad when loaded with a special app.
two-way functionality means that with the press of a button, 'wow-keys' can switch from 'PC mode', which uses the phone or iPod
as touchscreen input to the PC, to 'iPhone mode' instead, which permits easy file transfer and utilizes the keyboard for text entry

These humble clocks were made obsolete by fancy LED clocks and more recently by cell phones. Jonas Damon’s Alarm Dock allows your iPhone to read as an “alarm clock”. With the help of a clock app, this dock returns meaningful form to the sliver of a device that will wake u up. Areaware Alarm Clock by Jonas Damon.

julie simon developed a 'walking object' developed around a link to childhood.
fascinated by disney characters, she chose to work with the silhouettes of bambi and ducks in her footwear design.
featured is the body of a normal looking pump, however the humour is found in the rubber ducky
which stands in as the shoe's heel.'walking object' by julie simon

The Watson table is named after James Watson, the American scientist famous for discovering the helical structure of DNA. I felt like a scientist developing this table, working through numerous controlled material experiments to achieve the desired result. The closer I came to the solution, the simpler the experiments became, and the final result is a wood-composite structure laminated over a simple 6-part plywood mold.
The form is inspired by English furniture of the late 1600′s, with its distinctive open wood turnings, sometimes called ‘barley twists’. I was interested in translating these twisting shapes into bold structural elements, for the purpose of experimenting with new combinations of materials and construction processes.
To use materials as efficiently as possible I abandoned a machining-based approach in favor of an ‘additive’ lamination process. I began to experiment with composite materials to give structural support to this naturally ‘springy’ form; the result is a combination of wood and carbon fiber, with a painted wood top. This composite ‘sandwich’ utilizes the inherent rigidity of carbon as a structural core, creating a symbiotic composition providing a maximum of strength using a minimum of material.Watson Table by Paul Loebach

The design of this new home in the old village at Sugar Bowl is entirely a product of its dramatic environment. With a snow pack of as much as 8-9 feet, massive snow loads, and dangerous shear snow blocks dropping from typical sloped roofs, the site conditions dictate design.
This new house uses the constraints to shape an elegant solution. Taking a historical railroad avalanche shed as a precedent, the house uses a simple, bent planar roof form to gather the rooftop snow pack and shed it to the rear of the structure, away from entry and pedestrian traffic.
Perched on a concrete plinth that lifts it above the tall winter snow-pack, the house allows snow to rise around it and meet the entry level. At the first floor, a solid, cedar-clad volume houses entry, boot room, children’s and guest bedrooms, and service spaces. The exaggerated and abstract geometry of the fenestration at this level frames exaggerated views of horizontal snow drifts and vertical stands of pine trees.
In an otherwise horizontally oriented house, a two story glazed wall at the main stair provides a singular vertical perspective on the stands of surrounding pines and provides a moment of transition from the heavier base element to the light-filled airy spaces above. On the upper level, a variety of living spaces and the master bedroom suite, each enjoying mountain views, are gathered between the linear roof form and the simple block below. The interior palette of walnut, fir, concrete, and steel strikes a balance between clean, modern spatial expression with the warm, rustic feel of a mountain home.

There is an increasing need to develop products that can be transported as efficiently as possible, but products designed to meet these requirements often sacrifice aesthetics to do so. As a result, people continue to purchase products that transport less efficiently.
Named after a synonym for "interweave," Complect features bent plywood legs that are woven through a solid walnut tabletop. It was designed to combine simple home assembly and high quality construction into a flat-packing table that doesn't look like one.
Complect is easy to assemble and disassemble, and requires only a screwdriver to completely remove its legs. It uses standard screws to ensure both the worry-free replacement of lost hardware and the use of a tool that is familiar to many households. Complect is 4' long by 21" wide, stands at just over 15" tall, and breaks down to a height of under 3.5" for easy storage and transportation.Matt Finder

The iMSO-104, however, actually turns your iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch into an oscilloscope display. Using a Cypress Semiconductor system on a chip, the iMSO-104 touts a 5MHz bandwidth and as much as 12 megasamples per second, and connects to your device by way of the dock connector -- according to its maker, it's also the world's smallest and most portable oscilloscope. That's all well and good, but what we really want to know is, does it support Tennis for Two? The Blues Point Hotel required an outdoor terrace that was enjoyable to be in but respected the residential neighbours by keeping the noise down and maintaining privacy. The deck unifies the internal spaces of the pub by infilling the original L shaped plan and meeting the interior spaces at floor level. By opening up the best rooms and giving them back to the hotel, and inviting these spaces to share in the joy of the deck, the hotel in an instant feels familiar yet infinitely bigger. The curvilinear form of the deck meanders around a 30m tall Norfolk Pine, and deflects and absorb noise, while responding in part to the wonderful curves in the art deco form of the existing hotel. The warm and inviting walls were designed to live in, to embrace the patrons and provide open and exposed spaces and private and secreted nooks. Windows punch slender holes in the tall walls to embrace the view only, blinkering patrons from the neighbours gardens. The playfulness of the deck adds to the relaxing experience of a lunch or a few quite drinks on a sunny afternoon, or a night out with friends.Blues Point Hotel Outdoor Terrace by Carter Williamson Architects

The wood has been maintain to uphold particular aspects and characteristics found within it. We have learned from experience that impossibility of guaranteeing the homogeneity of wood from one piece to the next. Much of the beauty that is found in one piece of wood is what facilitates the creation of each individual design. All wood has the potential to change with use and though time.Original Looking Low Maple Table with Glass Leg from John Houshmand

the idea for the cabin is that of a lakeside shelter in the woods—a little box with a big window that opens to the surrounding landscape. The cabin’s big window-wall (30 feet by 20 feet) opens the entire living space to the forest and lake. Materials are low maintenance—concrete block, steel, concrete floors and plywood—in keeping with the notion of a cabin, and left unfinished to naturally age and acquire a patina that fits in with the natural setting. The method used to open the window consists of an intriguing pulley system, absolutely fascinating to watch in action. This leads to the whole house being open towards the stunning surrounding views.Strong blocks of color help to define space and direct the eye. Texture in furnishings provides a soft but strong counterpoint to the hard, raw material palette. Custom tables using plywood and polyurethane create a direct connection to the architecture while providing durability and function. Some of the unique interior features include the custom continuous steel pipe fireplace, the wood slab work surface supported by a truck suspension spring, and the custom stainless steel bathroom sink.Olson Kundig
